On the basis of European and Italian regulation, water can only be defined "natural mineral” if it has certain characteristics that can be summarized as follows:
- Underground and protected origin
- Microbiologically pure at origin
- Constant characteristics and composition
- May have favorable effects on health
- Bottled at source in secure and controlled containers
- Can't be subjected to any disinfection or potabilization treatment

The higher the source is, the greater is the safety of both a pristine environment and quality of water.
2K42 water springs at 2,042 metres above mean sea level, in the heart of Monviso’s mountain district, from Europe's highest natural spring, in a pristine alpine protected groundwater at 3.8°C, far from any human settlement or source of pollution.
Minimally mineralized

2K42 water is very mild, with a very low mineral content (48 milligrams/liters).
A water with these features is suitable for everyone, an it's also an aid to prevent fatigue of the organism, to help diuresis, and it's as well recommanded in case of hypertension or kidney problems.
Classification of mineral waters:
Natural mineral waters are classified and divided into different categories based on the content of mineral salts or dry residue (quantity of dissolved mineral salts in one liter of water tested after evaporation at 180°C expressed in milligrams/liter):
- Minimally mineralized: dry residue < 50 milligrams/liter
- Low mineralized: dry residue level between 50 and 500 milligrams/liter
- Medium mineralized: dry residue level between 500 and 1500 milligrams/liter
- Rich in mineral content: dry residue level > 1500 milligrams/liter

2k42 is one of the water with lowest sodium content in the world. Thanks to its very low sodium content, 2k42 water is especially recommended for low-sodium diets.
Sodium and health
A diet rich in sodium carries water into the bloodstream: this causes an increase in blood volume which can increase blood pressure over time. High blood pressure (also known as hypertension) forces the heart to work harder and can damage blood vessels and organs, increasing the risk of both heart and kidney disease or stroke. Since blood pressure usually increases with age, limiting sodium intake becomes even more important as the years pass. A low-sodium diet can help to lower and maintain blood pressure within normal values, thereby helping to reduce the risk of the above mentioned diseases.

Thanks to its distinctive characteristics, including the absence of chemical and bacteriological contaminants, the constant chemical composition, the low mineralization, the low sodium and nitrate content, 2k42 water has been recognized by the Italian Ministry of Health as water reccommended for the preparation of infant's meals (Italian Ministry of Health Decree No. 3991, 03/03/2011).
